Buckholt Farmhouse
Buckholt Farmhouse dates back to the late 16th century and is an extremely
handsome farmhouse which has retained an immense character from
that period. The farmhouse is now in need of complete renovation but
has generously proportioned rooms, good ceiling heights for its age and
a number classical period features including; stone mullion windows,
exposed beams and an impressive inglenook fireplace within the original
kitchen / scullery.

Buckholt Farm is situated 8 miles south of Battle in the undulating wooded landscape of the High Sussex Weald between Hastings and Bexhill. This is a 368 acre working livestock farm full of rich history with character and charm.

The farmhouse is a Grade II four-bedroomed listed building dating back to the late 16th century and was remodelled again in 1670 over three storeys. There were 16th century ancient ironworks on the farm alongside the watermill stream, and some of the workings are still in evidence along the northern boundary. The property continued over the centuries as a working farm, until the turn of the 20th century when part of the house was used as a boarding school for girls. By wwii, it had become a private house and farm once again. For many years the land adjoining the farm driveway was used as the local hunt Point to Point course.

Buckholt Farmhouse to this day retains the character and features of its time, with exposed oak timbers in many of the rooms, the original inglenook fireplace in the scullery and the retention of the stone mullion windows. The traditional hop Oast House remains on the farm, having been converted into a pair of four-bedroom attached dwellings which are let out.
